#JobSearch : 30 Remote Companies Hiring For Flexible Jobs In 2024. Dreaming About the Freedom of Working Remotely? Great REad!

July 22, 2024/in First Sun Blog/by First Sun Team

Feeling stuck in a traditional job and dreaming about the freedom of working remotely? There’s never been a better time to look for flexible and remote work. All around the world, more and more employers are adopting remote work not only for preventive measures but also to introduce flexibility in their workplace.

Many employers realize its benefits and fully embrace it to match their evolving business needs. Vox.com projected in 2019 that 70% of the workforce would be working remotely in 2025. With such flexibility, it is becoming evident that employees now prefer working in companies that offer remote setups. Pew Research Center reported that 34% of workers wanted to work from home all or most of the time.

The following companies are leading the charge in providing remote job opportunities, according to Flexjobs.com. As with every potential job, do your due diligence research online before applying to any role.

30 Remote Companies Hiring for 2024

#JobSearch : How To Get A Remote Job In A Tough Labor Market, According To A Tech-Unicorn Founder. “At Remote, we Don’t Consider Education in Hiring Decisions”

July 11, 2024/in First Sun Blog/by First Sun Team

With employers pushing for workers to return to the office, it has become increasingly challenging and competitive to land a remote job. In the aftermath of the pandemic, remote job opportunities are diminishing across nearly all states in the United States, according to a recent Forbes report, citing ZipRecruiter data. This trend reflects a broader shift among companies, as they transition from work-from-home arrangements back to traditional in-office work environments.

Although remote job listings are disappearing, employees still overwhelmingly want to work for distributed teams. Remote, a global payroll, tax, human resources and compliance solution, receives over 15,000 applications per month for its fully remote and location-independent positions.

Marcelo Lebre, cofounder and president of the HR platform, desires to tear down barriers and democratize employment by leveraging the power of a dispersed workforce.

In a Q&A with me, Lebre pulled back the curtain for anyone seeking a remote position in an historically tough job market, including at his company. He talked about the intentionality in your search, cultural awareness when seeking an international remote position, what job seekers should be mindful of and more.

Q&A With Remote’s Marcelo Lebre

Jack Kelly: What do you look for in a résumé and cover letter?

Marcelo Lebre: We prioritize clarity and relevance. Highlight your key achievements and skills in a concise manner. Keep your résumé to one or two pages. A cover letter can help personalize your application, but focus on quality over quantity. Interviews are where you really shine.

Kelly: Do you hire based on one’s educational background or do you more so look for skills and growth potential?

Lebre: Skills and growth potential are our main focus. Education can be a foundation, but practical skills and a demonstrated ability to learn and adapt are what set candidates apart.

At Remote, we don’t consider education in hiring decisions unless it’s legally required for the role, such as a law degree for practicing attorneys. Additionally, we recently removed ‘years of experience‘ as a requirement for our job listings. This shift focuses on what candidates can do rather than how long they’ve been doing it, ensuring we attract highly capable individuals who might otherwise be overlooked. This strategy helps us build a dynamic team with diverse experiences and perspectives, which is crucial for our fast-moving startup culture.

Kelly: Why is it important for job seekers to be intentional when applying to jobs?

Lebre: Intentionality demonstrates that you’re genuinely interested and have done your research. It’s better to apply to fewer positions with tailored applications than to blast out 100 generic ones. Being intentional also means you’ll likely be matched with a company that shares your values and respects your specific needs.

For example, let’s say you’re one of the millions of job seekers with young kids. You most likely wouldn’t want to work for a company that doesn’t have supportive policies in place for employees juggling work and raising a family. But what exactly does that look like?

We recently surveyed 2,001 working parents raising young children in the United States to understand how different work models impact finances, career decisions and overall work-life balance. We found that 22% of hybrid workers want to work from home more frequently to better manage childcare, but find their schedules too rigid—nearly on par with the 23% of fully in-office workers who face similar constraints.

So, if you’re a working parent in the U.S., this might mean applying specifically to companies that offer flexible work schedules or remote work options. Additionally, we found that nearly one in five working parents have considered sending their young children to school earlier to manage the high costs of childcare, and one in four parents have delayed or are reconsidering having more children due to their job demands.

Therefore, you might want to apply exclusively to companies that offer benefits designed for working parents, such as childcare support, affordable insurance and generous paid parental leave. Being intentional in your job search can lead to finding an employer that truly aligns with your personal and professional needs.

Kelly: For an American who is interested in getting a remote job in other countries, which places are the most welcoming to them?

Lebre: Overall, we’re seeing more and more companies from almost every country we operate in increasingly embrace remote work. But looking at specifics, Remote recently conducted an in-depth analysis of every country and U.S. state to uncover the best 100 destinations for remote work, based on factors spanning quality of life, safety, internet infrastructure, economics, travel and more. The top 10 include Madrid, Spain; Madeira, Portugal; Toronto, Canada; Auckland, New Zealand; Tokyo, Japan; Paris, France; Portland, Maine; Taipei, Taiwan; Stockholm, Sweden and Reykjavík, Iceland.

These top cities have several commonalities that make them ideal for remote work. Many, like Taipei, Madeira and Tokyo, offer digital nomad visas, making it easier for remote workers to stay for extended periods. Cities like Toronto and Auckland are known for their high quality of life, safety and diversity, making them welcoming for international workers. Places like Madrid and Paris offer a mix of rich cultural experiences and modern amenities, ensuring there’s always something to do when you’re not working. Others, such as Reykjavik and Stockholm, stand out for their stunning natural landscapes and commitment to sustainability. These locations not only provide the necessary infrastructure for remote work, but also offer vibrant communities, excellent healthcare and a variety of recreational activities to enjoy.

Kelly: Is it important for job seekers to learn about a country’s culture and norms, as it relates to compensation and other matters, when applying to international jobs?

Lebre: Absolutely. Cultural awareness shows that you’re proactive and adaptable. It’s essential for roles in diverse, international teams. On the flip side, when assessing global opportunities, it’s equally as important to consider companies that make an effort to understand your country’s norms and culture, so keep that in mind when deciding who you want to work for.

Respecting different norms and understanding how things operate in various regions is vital when working for a global company, and showcasing your interest and effort in this area indicates you’re probably a good fit for a distributed team.

Kelly: When negotiating or discussing salaries with an employer based out of the United States, what should a job applicant be aware of?

Lebre: Understand the cost of living differences and the company’s compensation philosophy. Be clear about your expectations and be ready to discuss how your skills and experience justify your salary requirements.

#JobSearch : An Unexpected Perk Of Remote Work- It’s Easier To Job Hunt. Great REad!

June 2, 2022/in First Sun Blog/by First Sun Team

Before Suzanne Garner worked remotely, part of her job hunt and interview prep included practicing driving to and from her potential new office, previewing the route and the stoplights that could delay her. But since she started working from home seven years ago, she says “all that stress goes away” now when it comes to job searching: To interview for a new job, she doesn’t have to make excuses for being out of the office, schedule calls for early morning when her boss won’t overhear or hop on a plane to meet potential employers—let alone do homework on traffic routes.

“Before working remotely became more commonplace, I didn’t even search for companies outside of driving distance,” says Garner, who lives in San Diego and has worked as a marketing director for Boston-based, health information platform Outcomes4Me since late March. “Working remotely certainly provides more flexibility in terms of time and where you can meet when it comes to interviewing.”

With the pandemic-induced pivot to more virtual work, more and more job seekers are experiencing not only the freedom to interview for remote-based jobs—but the ease of doing so outside the view of their manager’s watchful eye. Gone are the days of having to throw on a suit jacket at least a block away from the office to secretly dress up for an interview. For many, the muffled, heads-down calls to coordinate interview logistics are a thing of the past. No longer are sick days needed to head across town—or across the country—for an interview.

Much has been made of how the Great Resignation is being driven, in part, by the access workers have to a national pool of remote jobs. But there’s a less trumpeted factor at play: Many obstacles to interviewing are eroded for job seekers who are in the privacy of their home office, working flexible hours and able to step away at a moment’s notice.

According to the latest update from WFH Research, a project started in May 2020 by an economist and professors at Stanford University and ITAM in Mexico to track working arrangements and attitudes, nearly half of the 2,000 U.S. workers surveyed say working from home has made it easier to interview for prospective jobs.

In writing about the findings, which the researchers say they plan to continue exploring in the coming months, they write that “working from home can make it easier to take 30 minutes to an hour to do a virtual interview, or browse job ads and fill applications on a personal device without worrying about coworkers and managers snooping over your shoulder.”

One of the researchers, Stanford professor Nicholas Bloom, says when your boss knows you’re interviewing for another job, it can be bad news. “If you are actively looking for another job and you interview with three or four different companies, that’s extremely hard if you’re working in the office everyday because you have to come up with several excuses,” Bloom says. “Maybe you fabricate an entire ailment—I don’t know. But it’s hard.”

Interviewing while working remotely allows employees to schedule even more interviews than ever before, says Carly Mednick, a2022 Forbes 30 Under 30 honoree and founding partner at recruitment agency Monday Talent. “If you take into account an hour-long interview, commute to the office and back, we can be talking two hours or more of time to carve out.”

With location no longer a requirement, the job pool has not only widened; the search process has less friction. When it came time for Maia Thornton to interview for her new job as a senior knowledge specialist at Bain & Company, she didn’t have to worry about booking flights and taking time off to travel and could instead focus on nailing the interview.

“It was really seamless for me to still do my job and then also look out for my own career development,” says Thornton, who is currently based in Columbus. “I leaned on LinkedIn, and I didn’t have to worry about traveling and taking days off work.”

Working from home makes scheduling those interviews easier. For B.J. Schone, who joined feature management platform LaunchDarkly as director of learning and development in April, the biggest perk of the remote job search was the time saved.

“Maybe that’s why it’s easier for some folks to be switching so much during the Great Resignation,” San Diego-based Schone says. “You can just hop on a Zoom call from your own room and conduct all the interviews there.”

He says jumping offline for a 30-minute interview or quick chat with a recruiter was easier to schedule at home. So was filling out job applications.

“For many employees, it was like they’re going to preschool, and being watched, making sure they are at their desk or in the cubicles,” says Antonio Neves, a career coach for mid-career professionals.

The role has switched, Neves says. Job seekers are now interviewing employers just as much as employers are interviewing them. Employees, especially mid-career professionals, he says, have more leverage now and are more often deciding “to dip their feet in the water to see what’s out there.”

Going forward, the ease of interviewing, Bloom predicts, will lead to permanently higher employee turnover and impulse job changes—the same way online shopping has increased impulse spending. “We will see the same with people changing jobs because it’s so easy now when you’re working remotely to do it very quickly,” he says. “You can have jobs where you apply in the morning, schedule an interview for later that day and, if you’re a great candidate, have a job offer at the end of the day.”

#CareerAdvice : #JobOpenings -Highest Paying Work From Home Jobs.

A growing number of professions are becoming increasingly flexible to remote workers. Medicine, for example, a field that traditionally required long visits to the doctor’s office and in-person checkups, is being revolutionized by the advent of telemedicine, which allows doctors and patients to communicate remotely. The global market for telemedicine is projected to climb 19 percent from 2018 to 2025, making for massive job openings for healthcare professionals to work remotely.

While it’s great news that remote work opportunities are growing across a variety of sectors, the even better news is that remote positions don’t require you to take a pay cut. In fact, work from home positions can help you save money by reducing transportation costs, or cutting the cost of having to live close to your workplace. Some positions even pay more for remote workers — one study on web developers, for example, found that developers who work remotely earn an average of 40 percent more than their counterparts who work in offices.

What kind of work from home job is right for you?

Work from home positions are available across a variety of industries, from tech to finance. While positions like software engineering have traditionally been more remote-friendly, companies are realizing that positions from client services to project management can also be opened up to remote workers. Use the Glassdoor job search tool with the location filter “Remote (Work From Home)” to see if the type of positions you’re interested in are currently available for remote work.

Which work from home jobs pay the most money?

Senior Software Engineer

Glassdoor Salary Range: $94,000 – $166,000

Software engineers work to develop, implement and refine applications software and computer systems software. Software engineers must have substantial knowledge of a number of programming languages, in addition to knowledge about software development and computer operating systems. While some software engineers are self-taught, many gain bachelor’s degrees, master’s degrees or even Ph.D.s in computer science.

What Skill Sets do You have to be ‘Sharpened’ ?

Continue of article:

Project Manager

Glassdoor Salary Range: $51,000 – $111,000

Project managers coordinate the team of people working on specific projects within a company or organization. This involves ensuring the timely completion of projects, helping solve roadblocks specific team members are facing, correctly budgeting for a project, documenting the steps of a project and overseeing the timeline of a project.

Physician

Glassdoor Salary Range: $119,000 – $303,000

With the advent of telemedicine, the options for physicians to work from home are now wider than ever. Becoming a physician is one of the most education-intensive career paths, requiring a bachelor’s degree, at least four years of medical school and between three and seven years of residency training.

Client Services Director

Glassdoor Salary Range: $76,000 – $160,000

The role of a client services director is very similar to an account manager, although sometimes less sales-focused. Client services directors are employed across businesses and organizations to maintain long-term relationships with clients and find solutions to client issues if they arise.

Business Development Manager

Glassdoor Salary Range: $49,000 – $118,000

A business development manager finds new opportunities for a company to sell its products or services. This includes identifying and fostering strategic partners, tracking new markets and emerging trends, creating sales opportunities with existing and new clients, and developing new business strategies for a company to increase sales.

Accountant

Glassdoor Salary Range: $40,000 – $77,000

Accountants collect, analyze, organize and make use of the financial records of their clients. They help file taxes, create budgets, analyze past and future financial performance of an organization, and keep accounting records. Becoming an accountant typically requires a bachelor’s degree, and sometimes a master’s degree, in accounting, as well as gaining licensure as a certified public accountant (CPA). Accountants work with the paper and digital records of their clients, so it is easy for them to work for the computer and conduct phone meetings with clients when needed.

Account Manager

Glassdoor Salary Range: $39,000 – $90,000

Account managers handle the relationships and sales with clients of a particular company. Wherever a company is making a sale or providing a service to a client, you’ll often find that account managers have a role there. Account managers are employed across many industries, from aerospace to beauty. The responsibilities of an account manager may vary across the industry they are employed in, but typically their responsibilities include managing and solving client issues, reaching company sales targets with clients and maintaining a smooth relationship between the client and the company.

UX Designer

Glassdoor Salary Range: $62,000 – $130,000
